A. Right, Note the microcystic stromal degeneration that was evident even from the low power images (the hallmark of nodular fasciitis). The lesion was composed of plump spindle cells that were arranged in a tissue culture architecture. Other areas showed storiform growth pattern. Keloid type collagen could be seen in image 6. As well as, extravasated RBCs and lymphocytes were seen in many areas. Compressed fascia was evident at the periphery of the lesion. Furthermore, the duration and the small size of the lesion should be appreciated.
B. Wrong, The lesion was lacking the peculiar verocay bodies. Instead there was keloid type collagen that was evident throughout the lesion.
C. Wrong, Lacking of staghorn vessels and the evident storiform pattern and tissue culture architecture excluded the diagnosis of SFT. Last but not least, microcystic stromal degeneration is the hallmark of nodular fasciitis.
