A. Wrong, the lesion lacks mitotic activity and cellular pleomorphism. Moreover, no lipoblasts were detected. Well differentiated liposarcoma is characterized molecularly by positivity for MDM2 and maintenance of RB1.
B. Wrong, the lesion lacks lipoblasts and cellular pleomorphism. As well as, ASCLT showed infiltration to the surroundings which is not evident in this case.
C. Right, the lesion is formed of sheets and lobules of mature adipocytes intermingled with variable amount of spindle cells and ropy collagen (black arrows). No mitotic activity was seen and the cells were relatively bland. Mast cells were detected in all fields (green arrows). The lesion is characterized molecularly by loss of RB1 and negativity for MDM2.
